British Designer Antony Price, Renowned for Creating Looks for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.
Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for some of the most iconic looks associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.
Price was best known for his defined forms and theatrical styles, most notably the pastel suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."
Price's death comes shortly after he debuted his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Lasting Legacy
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to merge menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in shaping form-fitting garments made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
In the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her tour of the United States following her marriage.
Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.
