People have come together throughout the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-led attack on that fateful day in October 2023, as discussions advanced in Egypt over an end to the war in Gaza.

The incident saw more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most fatal day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are considered trustworthy by the UN and other international bodies.

"The aggressive opponents have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "realize all the aims of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas administration and the assurance that Gaza will not pose a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership delayed official remembrance events until mid-October - after the completion of the festive season - but gatherings still were held throughout the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas attack was held in Tel Aviv. Put together by the affected families, it was broadcast throughout Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a minute's silence was held throughout the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

At the same time, both sides' delegations convened in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the negotiation venue for a second day of indirect talks to examine the provisions of the agreement.

A senior representative knowledgeable about the negotiations indicated that an evening round of negotiations commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source said the earlier meeting concluded without concrete outcomes, because of differences over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not recommence hostilities after the opening period of the deal.

He noted that the talks are "tough and have still not produce any significant progress," but noted that facilitators are working hard to close the differences between the both parties.

Key Matters in Discussions

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The swap of the prisoners still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for assistance deliveries
  • After-conflict administration of the territory

Citizen Sentiment

In Tel Aviv's memorial area previously, young Hagar - whose family member survived the assault on the gathering, where 378 people were murdered and many more were abducted by Hamas fighters - explained: "Nowhere feels like home any longer and until every captive are released no one will feel safe."

"When we see everybody home once more, we can relax anew. Then we can start to recover," she concluded.

In front of the prime minister's residence in Jerusalem, people assembled to show their solidarity for the relatives of the abducted. Israel states nearly fifty remain in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be alive.

Demonstrator one woman stated: "We must do every compromise needed for the captives to come back home. But we really want guarantees that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now consistently show that about seventy percent of the population want the war to end in as payment for the liberation of the abducted.

Palestinian Conditions

At the site of the gathering, grieving people assembled to honor the dead.

From the site, the sound of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where local people said the intense Israeli attacks carried on.

In Gaza City, air and artillery strikes were reported in the morning of Tuesday in the western neighborhood, sector and zone districts and in the east side district of the community, as well the camp to the north-west.

"Once the evening arrives, the dread comes with it," relocated urban resident a local woman, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli air strike earlier, shared.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the air strikes. During nighttime we are resting together, clinging, notably my smallest child who places his head on me the entire evening."

"Every second we look at the updates to see what happened. And I'm worried that this halt will not be achieved and that the war will come back to us."

Health Situation

The healthcare center in Gaza City reported it had received the corpses of several people by the daytime, including several who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the southern district.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of Khan Younis reported two more victims had been delivered. One of them was killed by Israeli soldiers while seeking assistance to the south, medics reported.

The territory's health ministry reported twenty-five of the {territ
