The Gory Cartoon Movie Conclusion That Stays With Fans
Out of all the adult-oriented animated films I’ve personally watched, nothing has stuck with me as much as the fear-filled finale of the graphically gory and overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, the Spanish filmmaker developed a grim, somber , often savage universe that included several minor , desolate twinges of optimism.
While Unicorn Wars feels like it stemmed from a desire to expand the medium even more, the director explained that it was actually a try to communicate a global, cross-cultural theme concerning “the common origin of each battle.”
That message is conveyed through a band of colorful pastel bears , openly inspired by a famous line of cuddly figures.
Being raised in a society built around aggression as well as the military-industrial complex, a lot of these creatures are fixated on killing unicorns, because of a sacred text which states the bears they previously were kings of the woods, before these creatures forced them out.
Others did not entirely accepted the indoctrination, , choose to experiment with substances and fornicate in the woods.
In contrast to their friendly counterparts, these colorful critters show genitals , clear libidos.
For a certain particularly cruel, cynical bear, the bear named Bluey, the battle with unicorns transforms into a route toward dominance — and specifically to supremacy over his more tender, nicer brother Tubby.
Bluey behaves aggressively and an obvious psychopath , and as terror takes over his squad and claims his fellow soldiers sequentially, he grabs progressively power for himself, via progressively bloody, damaging approaches.
Meanwhile, the unicorns are experiencing their own nightmare, through a spreading, deadly beast in their habitat.
“At the beginning, it appears as a comedy,” the filmmaker said. “However it becomes a more dramatic and sorrowful movie. And by the end, it’s a horror film.”
Unicorn Wars commences similar to one of the more whimsical films from a renowned filmmaker, that uncover a naughty glee in allowing animated figures swear, engage in violence, or have intimate relations.
Afterward it becomes more akin to a more grim film from the same director, with increasingly visual gore and a tangible relation to the real suffering of battle.
In the finale, it’s an outright Grand Guignol bloodbath.
The horror that makes this a perfect Halloween watch begins a lot earlier than indicated.
The Unicorn Wars is one for the devoted gorehounds, for lovers of graphic films who desire to see a film they have not viewed until now, and who can handle a narrative which delivers no restraint.
View it with the lights off with no disturbances, and that ending will dig under your skin and take up residence there.
